so yeah, here, I will be going on about things of my interest that have a "retro" vibe, whether pixelated and stylish or a number of polygons you can actually count with more 64/ps2 area vibes, we will be heading there, to earlier, simplier times
let's start with a classic, nyan cat, this little bugger has been an open tab in my brain since I first heard it's "nya" sounds. which means for whatever reason, my brain will begin playing this sound in my head once more on loop, though sometimes it needs a refresh, example being listening to one of the many looped versions or remixes and covers of it to get the tab in my brain all up to working order again
Now I wish to talk about Hedon Bloodrite, mainly as it is a newer age take on a "boomer shooter" as the community likes to call it. and I will be using it as my center piece for talking about my enjoyment of the genre and such. Oh how I adore the fact that indie devs are making so many of these types of games, as when it comes to shooters, I have kinda run out of steam (pun intended) from triple AAA stuff, splatoon does keep my interest of course but nothing beats the classic style and while I have enjoyed my CODS, as that is what I got brought up and shown for my first intro to a shooter, I really enjoy the classics that I have seen played over and over by people older then me and now some of those people making things to reobtain that era and such.
Seeing these things make a comeback feels like a blessing to me personal as the spiral that is COD had a firm grip on me in the early days but I had the realization that most people sadly do eventually, overtime it only becomes fun to play with friends and the second part being that...it was indeed like some people said, the same thing over and over again. And because of that, my brain finally caved into that factor, while my brain enjoys both chaos and schedule to it's own detriment as it fights over itself, it had to agree with both sides going "yeah that's true" about COD. and it hurt to admit but it felt good to finally admit to myself that the series wasn't gonna be what I used to play on the 360 because I was a kid and enjoying it for the thrill and not able to see the bad thing here or there, doesn't help that the top heads in triple AAA seats, look at their poor devs and go "alright, code the store first thing now" annoys me
Like look at this! it's a moment of beauty to see a game like this with such beautiful classic looking style that has personality in the sprites and looks of the world, and with the power of today allowing the people who made Ion fury to really go all in with their amazing works of art of a gal whos about to fuck up the enemies of her world so amazing. And it makes me think, while graphics have been a major point in the triple AAA space for so long, I think the reason people are heading back to these simpler styles and times is to move away from the realism that plagues the usual looks of games. we've hit a wall in that sense, now we see some studios experimenting with style but most would rather stick with what keeps the money rolling until they feel extra extra comfy and sure that it will stick the landing
Viscerafest, the main character seemingly being a fellow weird gal who just enjoys fun but of course in her case, she is also a badass hunter who is about to finally get the money to pay off her ring she wants to propose to her alien husband with. I get to see her get cool things and I am excited to eventually try this out, as it seems like such a fun game to have and play with the weird wild world she seems to live in and stuff.
Forgive Me Father, what a name already, the part of the saying that usually comes before "for I have sinned" in many times heard irl in the past or today or in multiple layers of media that is for or critquing religion. the games style is what draws the eyes of many and my own included as it feels like you are going ahead and jumping into a comic book world, crafted full of elderitch horror and the gloom and dreariness that comes with it, immersing the player into a world full of horrors of many kinds, though my favorite being the red barrels we all associate with explosions having gained a bit of life to them, fighting back after ages and ages of explosions.
Diluvian Ultra, one of the latest of the releases, with it's first chapter out upon the world very recently as the time of writing this,it is, atleast from what I have seen from videos and such, a very fun looking game.
from what I am hearing about lore and such diluvian ultra has you playing as a prince of a villainous species in the glaxay who used dragons as their main weapons, but after destroying alot, they looked elsewhere to cause even more destruction, leaving them stranded basically without a big main part of their weaponry having left on it's own accord, most having surrendered when found but your ships flight course to a "promise land" having been interrupted means that the prince is a bit cranky but quickly realizes what is going on and starts arming himself as he gets boarded on his massive biomess of a ship. also you can pet your gun since it is a living creature, amazing. Also more of a thing I noticed, while doom-like of course, the design of the main character in the main art, makes him look like a demon, the polar opposite to doomguy, even facing the opposite way interestingly enough.
ah cultic, it also is going on a chapter basis for its releasing ways and it has had it's 1st chapter out for almost a year, this shooter takes a look at vibes of old and says "well lets go ahead and take care of the cult area too" and man does it look like it delivers.
these two look cool but I have not played nor watched either yet much aside from their trailers, but I hear good stuff from them!
Now Fashion Police Squad on the other hand is one I have indeed played and I gotta say from the time I played, I loved every second of it! each weapon is designed for a different fashion disaster that you have to handle quickly and swiftly, and the variety in the styles of weapons and their designs is quite nice if I do say so myself, and later levels even have you forced to combine weapon usage to tackle to different fashion problems at once on a singular person, which lends itself to some interesting strategies as that enemy gets used more. as it really introduces cool stuff. Also the movement power from one weapon and your trusty belt, one allowing you to become what I imagine it would be like if a spider man game went first person in a retro style while the other, lets just say it really adds flow to the movement and drown out the obstacles before you as you speed by them!
honestly I just like the look of this game so I wanted to share this
FAITH: The Unholy Trinity
I wanted to share this one as while I have not played it yet, I really wanna talk about the fact that it showed the world once more that it isn't the level of detail in a game that can make it scary as a horror game or a horror level, but the execution of said scary things within the game being used to their fullest
Sandtrix
an new take on the classic tetris that many of us have known for years, but with one interesting, change, the whole blocks fall apart like they are made of sand! while I do not play the game as of writing this, I have seen many playing this game and it seems like an interesting idea overrall, a good passing time kind of game
